A Goa destination wedding is usually a beach ceremony at sunset between November and February, with a party that runs into the night. South Goa is quieter and more upmarket, and North Goa is livelier. For 150 guests over three days, expect roughly ₹52.6 lakh–₹1.14 crore (about US$55,000–119,000). Late December is the most expensive fortnight.

## Key facts

- Best months: November to March
- Typical budget: ₹52.6 lakh–₹1.14 crore (about US$55,000–119,000) for 150 guests, 3 nights, 4-star
- Airports: Manohar International Airport, Mopa (GOX) — Best for North Goa; Dabolim Airport (GOI) — Best for South Goa
- Areas: North and South Goa beaches, Panjim and the hinterland

Goa is where much of India goes for a beach holiday. Its mix of Indian and Portuguese heritage feels familiar to a lot of guests from abroad. There are whitewashed churches and old villas with red-tiled roofs, plenty of seafood, and sunsets over the Arabian Sea.

In Goa the ceremony starts in the late afternoon, so the sun sets behind you as you say your vows. Dinner moves to a lawn or a pool deck. When the outdoor music has to stop, the party carries on indoors.

## Coming from abroad

Goa has two airports. Manohar International at Mopa is the one for North Goa, and Dabolim is for South Goa. Both have flights from the Gulf and one-stop connections from Europe. Many guests come through Mumbai, an hour’s flight away. Resorts are 30 minutes to 90 minutes from either airport.

| From | How | Time |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Europe and North America | One stop via the Gulf, or via Mumbai or Delhi | About 13–22 hours |
| Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha | Direct flights to Goa | About 4 hours |
| Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi | Direct domestic flights | 1–2.5 hours |

## Seasons

| Months | Weather | Our view |
| --- | --- | --- |
| November–February | Dry and sunny, 20–32 °C | Peak season. Late December is the busiest and most expensive time of year. |
| March–May | Hot and humid, 30–35 °C | Good value, if you hold the functions in the evening. |
| June–September | Heavy monsoon, rough sea | Beach ceremonies aren’t practical. Indoor and villa weddings only. |
| October | Showers ease, green and warm | Shoulder season with lower rates. |

## Venue types

- **Beach resorts:** Lawns facing the sea. South Goa’s are calmer and more upmarket, and North Goa suits a livelier crowd.
- **Portuguese villas:** Old homes with courtyards and red-tiled roofs, for smaller weddings of 30–100 guests.
- **Riverside and hinterland venues:** Estates along Goa’s rivers and in the green interior, away from the beach crowds.
- **Clifftop venues:** Headland lawns with open sunset views over the Arabian Sea.

## Highlights

- **Sunset vows:** We time the ceremony so the sun goes down behind you. The light does half the work of the décor.
- **Easy for guests:** There are direct flights from the Gulf and hotels at every budget. For most guests the holiday starts when they land.
- **Two cultures already:** Goa has old churches as well as Hindu temples, and a Portuguese past, so a fusion wedding fits in easily.
- **Seafood and sundowners:** Goan food and a relaxed bar culture keep the whole weekend easy.

## Budgets

## Ceremonies

- A beach ceremony needs the resort’s permission, and on a public beach the local authority’s as well. We apply for both.
- Goan Catholic weddings are held in church, often with a reception at a resort afterwards.
- Hindu, civil-style and fusion ceremonies are common at beach resorts.

## Rules and permissions

- Outdoor amplified music normally ends at 10 pm, and the party moves indoors after that.
- Fireworks need permission, and not every beach allows them.
- For a late-December wedding, book a year ahead.

## Questions

### How much does a destination wedding in Goa cost?

Expect roughly ₹52.6 lakh–₹1.14 crore (about US$55,000–119,000) for 150 guests over three days at a 4-star beach resort. That covers rooms, food, the venue, décor, photography, music, guest care and our fee. Christmas and New Year week cost the most.

### When is the best time for a beach wedding in Goa?

November to February, when it’s dry and the sea is calm. Avoid June to September, when the monsoon makes beach ceremonies impractical.

### Do we need permission for a beach wedding in Goa?

Yes. Resorts give permission for their own beachfront, and a ceremony on a public beach needs local approval. We apply for both as part of the planning.

### Which is better for a wedding, North or South Goa?

South Goa is quieter, with larger resorts and cleaner beaches. North Goa is livelier, with more villas and more nightlife for guests.

### Can foreigners get legally married in Goa?

Goa has its own civil marriage law, with residency requirements, so most couples from abroad marry legally at home and hold the ceremony in Goa. We can talk you through both routes on a call.

### How late can the party go?

Outdoor music normally stops at 10 pm. Most resorts have an indoor space or a licensed bar where the party carries on.
