**In short:** The best time for a wedding in most of India is October to March, when it’s dry and warm. December to February is peak season, and it costs the most. For an outdoor wedding, avoid the monsoon (roughly June to September). In Rajasthan, avoid April to June too, when days are often above 40 °C.

## Season by destination

| Destination | Best months | Peak | Avoid for outdoor weddings |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Kerala | September–March | December–February | June–August (monsoon) |
| Goa | November–March | Late December | June–September (monsoon) |
| Udaipur and Jaipur | October–March | November–February | April–June (heat) |
| Rishikesh | October–November, February–April | November, March | July–August (monsoon) |
| Jim Corbett | October–March | December–February | July–September (monsoon) |
| Coorg | October–March | December–January | June–September (monsoon) |
| Lonavala | October–February | December | June–September (monsoon) |

## What about the monsoon?

The monsoon brings heavy rain to most of India from about June to September, and it reaches Kerala first. It’s a green, quiet time of year and venues cost less, but an outdoor ceremony becomes a gamble. If you love the monsoon, choose an indoor or covered venue and enjoy the rain.

## Are some dates auspicious?

For Hindu families, yes. The date is often chosen from the Hindu calendar, and the popular muhurtham dates (the auspicious days and times) book up first. In Kerala, many Hindu families avoid the month of Karkidakam (mid-July to mid-August). Christian families avoid Lent, and Muslim families avoid Ramadan. Our [muhurtham finder](/muhurat) shows the traditional dates for any year.

## Which months are the best value?

October, early November and March. The weather is good then, and rates are lower than in peak season.
