Udaipur destination weddings

A palace wedding by the lake, with your guests arriving by boat.

City Palace on Lake Pichola, Udaipur

An Udaipur wedding usually means a lake palace or a palace resort in the Aravalli hills. Guests arrive by boat, and the baraat, the groom’s procession, goes through the old city. The season is October to March. For 150 guests over three days, expect roughly ₹66.8 lakh–₹1.53 crore (about US$70,000–160,000). The grandest palaces cost several times more.

Udaipur is called the City of Lakes, and it’s one of India’s best-known wedding cities. White palaces rise out of Lake Pichola, and the Aravalli hills are all around. In the evening you can eat at a rooftop restaurant over the water.

At an Udaipur wedding, guests often cross the lake by boat. The sangeet, the night of music and dancing before the wedding, is held in a courtyard lit with lanterns, and Rajasthani folk musicians play as the sun drops behind the hills.

Why couples choose it

What makes a Udaipur wedding special

  • Arrive by boat

Guests cross the lake at sunset to the welcome dinner or the ceremony.

  • Rajasthani music

Folk singers and dhol drummers for the sangeet night, and a puppet show if you’d like one.

  • Palaces for a backdrop

The palaces sit on the lakes with the hills behind them, and they photograph well at any hour.

  • For guests who stay on

Jodhpur, Jaipur and the Ranakpur temples are all within a few hours.

Coming from abroad

Getting your guests to Udaipur

Fly into Delhi or Mumbai, then take the one-hour domestic flight to Udaipur’s Maharana Pratap Airport, which is about 30 minutes from the lake. Many guests add a few days in Delhi, Jaipur or Jodhpur, and we can plan those too.

Ceremonies and local rules

Ceremonies

  • The tradition here is a Hindu wedding with a baraat and pheras, the rounds the couple take around the sacred fire. Fusion and civil-style ceremonies are common at palace hotels too.
  • On wedding dates, palaces often ask you to book a minimum number of rooms, and sometimes the whole property.
  • We don’t use elephants in processions. Instead we use a vintage car, or a decorated horse that has had welfare checks.

Rules and permissions

  • Heritage venues have strict rules on décor fixings, fire and sound. We plan around them from the first site visit.
  • Outdoor amplified music normally ends at 10 pm.
  • Palace dates for November to February sell out 12–18 months ahead.

Udaipur wedding questions

How much does a destination wedding in Udaipur cost?

Expect roughly ₹66.8 lakh–₹1.53 crore (about US$70,000–160,000) for 150 guests over three days at a 4-star palace-style resort. Lake palaces and royal venues cost several times more, and they often ask you to book the whole property.

What is the best time for a wedding in Udaipur?

October to March. December and January nights are cool, so we plan warm spaces for the evening functions. Avoid April to June, when it’s often above 40 °C.

How do guests get to Udaipur from abroad?

Fly into Delhi or Mumbai, then take a one-hour flight to Udaipur. The airport is 30 to 40 minutes from the lake.

Can we book a palace for our wedding?

Yes. Several heritage palaces host weddings, but they book up 12 to 18 months ahead for peak dates, and they usually ask you to take a minimum number of rooms.

Can foreigners have a traditional Rajasthani wedding?

Yes. Many couples from abroad choose a Hindu-style ceremony with a priest. Others have a fusion ceremony, with a baraat, garlands and pheras alongside their own vows.
